A journey through the historical influences that led from a working environment in the deprived, urban landscape of Blakenhall in Wolverhampton. A place where the seasons had little impact and the colours were uninspiring when she first arrived in the 1980s.
(This urban landscape did eventually change significantly through a generously funded ten-year regeneration project and the commitment, of those who lived or worked there, to make it happen.)
Although, the dull urban colours of Blakenhall were interrupted by the welcome orange and gold of religious festivals, they were very different from those of rural parish ministry in Shropshire, where colours were dictated by the farming and the liturgical seasons.
The continuous art journey meanders casually through the sharply defined parameters of public facing roles in two very different communities.
Retired to Cornwall, the remembered urban and rural ‘colours’ modify each other as they overlap, and the new environment is enhanced by Cornish light emphasizing strong shapes and colours.
